Poland easily defeated Chile 35:27 (19:13) in the second Saturday’s game at ERGO ARENA and will definitely play in the upcoming Olympic Games.
Coach Duyshebaev chose to try out his less experienced players therefore his rotation was bigger than in the game against Macedonia. Gierak and Rojewski started strong with spectacular goals that energized to cheer and sing over 10 000 handball lovers in the Polish city of Gdansk. Chileans were in the game as Erwin Feuchtmann scored 5 goals in the first 30 minutes only. Poles finished the first half strong with two goals from the right back Michał Szyba and were only 30 minutes away from the longed-for qualification.
Polish players came out focused and after two quick goals and a suspension for Erwin Feuchtmann were up by 8. Much shorter Chileans speeded up in defense but Polish players wouldn’t let their fans down and kept scoring goal by goal. Efficient fast breaks in the last ten minutes summed up the whole game and so the celebration began!
